Our trip to see The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales at the Oregon Children’s Theater Winningstad Theatre with the tickets I won from PDX Kids Calendar!

We left our house an hour before the show was to start. Normally, finding parking in downtown Portland is a chore and we had never been to this theatre before. We actually found street parking about a block away from the door. We were inside with plenty of time to pick up our tickets at will call and poke around. We ending up buying a couple of snacks, something I would suggest against. It was very pricey and it would have made sense to bring some snacks from home. I will admit it, I forgot!

Our seats were on the second level stage left and the view from there was amazing. My husband commented that he felt like we were Statler and Waldorf. I couldn’t help it I had to laugh! Our son hasn’t had enough exposure to the Muppets to know what we were talking about, but he was extremely thrilled with our seats.

The play is narrated by Jack, you know from Jack in the Bean Stalk, who immediately dives right into involving the audience in this parody play.

If my son had to choose his favorite part of this play he wouldn’t be able to decide. He spent most of the play sitting on the edge of his seat, giggling and dancing to the musical numbers. He did tell me he really liked when the Table of Contents fell down from the sky and when the Giant threw the Cow Patty down from his cloud.

But, he will go on and on about the rest of the play. Like when the prince switched the pea for a bowling ball under the mattresses and the frog who tricked the princess into kissing him by letting her believe he was a handsome prince. Or when the prince called his princess, forgive me I might not remember correctly, honey boo and a loud questioning reply came back from a fellow audience member “Honey BOO??” and everyone laughed.

For my favorite part, and probably most parents there would agree, it was the DJ Ugly (Duckling) in the House! I liked it so much I did my best to dig out my cell phone too try to take a picture. Sadly the picture turned out too blurry. I was afraid that my real camera would cause to much of a distraction even with the flash off (it has an annoying orange light).

There is still time for you to take your family! I would recommend this play for ages 3 and up. The play runs 1 hour almost precisely, which I think is perfect for the younger ones. Remember to take your own snacks and drinks.
